I'm a new member looking for a kitten and I have a question

I think there are some very nice sized kittens at F3 and lower generations being produced. I have seen some F3s that are actually larger than some F2s. Males do have a tendency to be the larger of the sexes. I have an F7SBT that is almost as large as his mother at 16 weeks old. I also know that all F2s are not big cats. I have two F1 females here and one consistently has produced large males. The other has produced nice sized babies, but not nearly as large as the other. Truth is ...you never know for sure, but from past litters, rate of growth and age of kitten can have a pretty good idea whether a certain kitten is going to have better size than another at maturity. This is not in any way saying you can guarantee..just a good idea;>) I am sure you will find exactly what you are looking for. Take your time, stick to your guns on what you want and just know there is a baby out there for you. The best advice I can give is to make a well socialized kitten a must in your search........regardless of size. There are lovely babies out there and one will undoubtedly call your name. You will know the right one for you when you see it;>

My boy F6s are often just about as big as my girl F1s when they finish growing. I'm not sure why- but their Daddy is a big fella too. Sizes leave me dizzy so I just tell new Moms and Dads to expect a kitty that might be leggier then the average house cat and then when they turn out bigger, be happy :D

My F5B is very very low Serval percentage, but he is still very tall, very long, pure muscle, big ears, slender face, hooded eyes, long neck.... people always ask me if he is some kind of "special" cat haha! He is 12lbs now at 10 months old. Not a huge cat, but by all means he is on the large side of domestic cats. I think he is still gaining weight too.

I think your best bet will be to look for a pairing of cats that is a repeat breeding where the previous litters did produce the type of Savannah you are looking for. In your case, you are looking for a very leggy cat with really big ears and other Servail traits so people will know you don't just have a "regular" house cat :) Even if your cat doesn't weigh very much, almost all good breeders are producing cats that do not look so "regular".

Thanks Admin! i apologize in advance if I am asking a silly question but I'm kind of new at the savannah kitten search, but here goes. At the age of 8 weeks old is what is a good weight for a male F2 or F3 kitty where it may be reasonable to assume that he may be a relatively large adult cat? I know there's no guarantee because sometimes a tiny one can keep growing and a larger kitten may not always end up the largest cat.

Keljin was exactly this case, its just simply TOO hard to make any guarantee or even a guess an adult size based on kitten size. Keljin was the runt of his litter, at 3-4 months old he was only 0.6lbs when his siblings were all 2+ lbs. Now at 9 months old he is the largest of all his siblings! He had a huge turn around, he is 10+ lbs now when his sisters that I am in touch with are only 6-7lbs. I expect he will keep growing past that, but regardless of size its all personality. Anyone who sees him in my home calls him a jungle cat, or mini leopard, any exotic names they can think of because he is nothing near normal, even though he does not yet exceed a domestic cat size.

0.6 lbs is the tiniest cat I have ever heard of at 3-4 months old. I sure am glad he did a turn around;>)As a rule of thumb ...one pound a month is considered a normal weight gain. At the same time there are those that will weigh 5 pounds at two months old. Again I will stress that some kittens grow fast in the beginning and slow down. Some start out slow and then kick into gear around 6 months old. You then will have the BUBBAS that keep right on growing;>) I see all of them continuing to grow well into 2 years old.
