I all of a sudden feel UNPREPARED... I have to go pick up his food & litter & feather toys & a big stuffed animal for him to bunny-kick, Feliway and I forget what else!
Remember the appropriate bottle of your fav alcoholic beverage for those times when you think "what have I done." :big grin:

those times when you think "what have I done."

I've thought that to a small degree already once or twice. It's a huge commitment! ~20years (hopefully). But I'm ready to have a boy back in the house. And I prefer a multi-cat household.

Admittedly, dating is easier when you only have 1 cat. When I tell guys I have "cats", they automatically assume I have 11 or some crazy high number. I recently ran into a guy I used to casually date a few years ago and he offered his condolences because he saw on my FB that Malibu had passed. He said, "But don't you have like 3 more cats?" No...I had 2 cats. I've never had more than 2 cats....

Less than 5 days away now!

Our travel day next week got a little complicated. It is so incredibly hot here in New Orleans right now. It easily reaches 90 degrees before lunchtime. You're not supposed to ship pets in cargo if the temperature is over 85. Sue and I think it's best if I carry him on instead.

However, the round-trip flight from New Orleans to LEX is over 1k as of today, which is just too much lol. So shes going to ship him via cargo to ATL very early in the morning before it gets too hot. I'll pick him up in ATL and carry him on with me home so he doesn't overheat in cargo.

Supposedly, the ATL airport has a nice, fully fenced in grassy area to bring leashed pets to potty/play/get rid of jetleg. We have a long (5 hour) layover in ATL so I'm going to bring him to the pet relief area so he can stretch his legs. I'm going to make sure to bring a harness, leash, cup for water, small, disposable litterbox, ziploc bag of litter & some toys. We should have a fun little time.

Not sure that's a good idea for a kitten who has had only 1 or 2 sets of vaccinations and might be stressed from travel and hence the immune system might be challenged. And there's way to know what diseases are lurking in that area due to sick or under-vaccinated animals using it.

I had a long layover with my first SV. I had a puppy pee pad in the carrier and carried extra with me. He stayed in the carrier the entire time playing with a toy and people watching. I changed the pee pad once in the ladies room and it was tricky with a squirmy kitten. Also, because they are so distinctive looking, you might get mobbed by people who want to see him, pet him, know about him and that can stress out even the most chill kittens. If you want to give him a chance to stretch his legs, I suggest finding a relatively quiet place in the terminal to let him walk on leash and use the litter box.

I didn't think about the disease thing. I guess I just assumed he'd be protected since he's had his first set of vaccines already and isn't due for his second set yet.

Maybe I'll just rent a car and we can hang out in there to play for a while. (It is a 5hr layover.) I would have had to Uber to pick him up from the Cargo Building, which is a few miles from the airport anyway. So instead of paying for the Uber back & forth. I can rent a car to pick him up. I can set up the litterbox in the back seat and we can find somewhere shaded to park and play for a little while. Then we can head back to the airport, check in and catch our short flight home.

One set of vaccines is not sufficient to offer him full protection. Your rental car idea is a good one but don't feel bad about keeping him in the terminal in the carrier most of the time if the weather or some other unanticipated glitch occurs. He'll be fine.

I agree with Witchy, the last thing you want to do is to expose an already stressed kitten to more stress. Best to keep him calm and isolated as much as possible. When I have a layover at an airport I usually try to find a quiet spot in the terminal (sometimes there are alcoves along the walkways, or even a family restroom you can use) where the kitten can come out and stretch their legs if they want, but usually they prefer to stay in the safety and security of their carrier.

I just checked-in to my flight for tomorrow morning. I am officially in the last, dreaded 24 hours.

I'm pretty sure I have done everything I needed to do in preparation for a new kitten. I have plenty of food, litterboxes & litter, plethora of kitten-safe toys, Feliway has been plugged in for a few days now, table lamps & dresser decorations have been secured with museum wax, window blind cords are wrapped tightly out of reach at the top of the windows, covered all electrical cords in the bedroom. I will put my comforter away for a few weeks until I know it won't get peed on lol. I know cats have a thing for down but mine is a "down alternative" so I'm hoping that it is considered cheap enough by my savannah to not want to pee on it :)

I'm kind of anxious for my little Kali. I can't imagine that she's going to be very happy to be a big sister. I'm just hoping with the proper introductions (I have the PDF printed out), the Feliway & a lot of luck & prayer that they learn to live in harmony and that neither is ever stressed out y the other.

Don't ask for problems! She might surprise you and be overjoyed at having a new feline companion. She lost Malibu, too. Any nerves about the introduction will likely be picked up by her, so stay positive!

Little Odrick is almost home! Hooray! Abby you must be on pins and needles at this point. Best wishes for a glitch-free flight. I'm eagerly anticipating hearing the Tales of Odrick.
