Meet Amani, our first Savannah

Can't help to show off my beautiful boy

He is home for one week now and he is doing so well. Playing eating and sleeping all day long, that's the life..

I am feeling blessed to be able to be with him all day, showing him around his new house and playing together. It is amazing how fast he learns. When he tries to scratch the carpet and I say 'NO' he runs to his scratching pole and starts scratching there while giving me a look haha

to be continued :)

Beautiful. The cat in the hood pictures reminds me of my Venus!

Haha yes I can truly imagine that it is going to be a challenge.
We are trying to be as conscious as possible when it comes to playing and learning.

So far we are learning him simple things. Clothes, hands and feet are not toys per example and when he gets a chicken treat we don't jump and claw! but nicely sit down.
In a weird cattish way he reminds me of our old Doberman, who was also high energy, insanely smart and fast learning. But Amani definitely shows to be smarter already!

I do notice that he likes to be naughty, or I wouldn't even know a better word for it. When he is not allowed to do something. Like jumping on my laptop keyboard while I'm writing (such as now) or play with my phone charger cord it suddenly becomes so much more interesting to do!

What I'm doing now is put him aside while saying no, and if he persists distract him with something else he is allowed to play with. I'm able to be very consistent with that as I'm always home, and have a good hope it will be paying off on the long run. And of course multiple playing moments on the day chasing toys and wrestling with toys and balls. He loves to hunt feathery and fluffy toys and drag them around.
If anyone has comments or tips when it comes to this approach, its welcome :)

Still didn't manage to make a non sleepy picture of him yet, he is so fast! All action pictures of him end up as some blur brown spot haha

Yep, you are definitely learning about the naughty side of Savannahs - that stubborn, persistent streak that is so prominent in the breed, but it's also one of the personality quirks that draws us to them!

You will quickly learn that saying "no" is often futile. They can be persistent little mules. Redirecting them to something else works better.
