can I ask you a strange question - do you remember the Russian... If Yes - then I will send a very interesting fragment of the book by Walter Zapashny - known in the world tigers tamer ... he had such problems with tigers and he decided these problems in the USSR, when there was nothing!!!;) This fragment will be in Russian, of course this is a piece of art literature, but it is the old method:)

Unfortunately I do not read Cyrillic script. :(

I appreciate the offer, though I would be at a loss to understand the writing.

In a nutshell - in the beginning he examined the tigers by UV light (wood's lamp), then he smeared by lime water affected areas of the body and strew by crushed superphosphate . The temperature of this reaction ( lime water and superphosphate ) - 60 degrees Celsiusand the crust is formed, which kills zoster. But near the eyes he used the iodine only. He did it 2 times a day and the pens and cages for tigers processed by blowtorch. It was in 1957 or 1960 years! ;)

Wow, thank you for the translation. That is a warm chemical reaction to have on the skin of the cats, 140 degrees fahrenheit. Not enough for long term harm, but enough to make them unconfortable. Very interesting.

the wrong translation... He recorded the each tiger (did it immobile) handled this way, then drying out, then gave him (tiger) off...after that to start this procedure again 2 times per a day:)

you may see this film about Valter Zapashny , 1965 year, about the circus performance Old Moscow...

I was just watching the video again to see if I might have imagined seeing someone I recognize. I believe that at 14 minutes and 7 seconds the man in the picture might be chess Grand Master Viktor Kortchtnoi back before he defected from the Soviet Union. I could be mistaken, however the resemblance is interesting.
