Brought a new toy home for the SVs. A paper bag. The ultimate cat toy.
Forgive the crappiness of the picks, my iPhone camera isn't up to the job in dimmer areas even with a flash.

You'll note a number of things in the cat room. I'm treating it as a lab to see what they get into so I can have a better framework for cat proofing the rest of the house. My other cats don't mess with any of this stuff, but with any new cat you never can tell.

With the couple of wires I have laying under the desk Yeti started to explore them, but I said no and turned him around and moved him a foot in the opposite direction and he hasn't bothered them since. Yuki seems uninterested in them. Yeti likes to play briefly with strands of the broom that stick out from the rest, but loses interest in them quickly.

And of course the paper bag became an instant hit with Yeti.

Oh man you are really new to this.

Here's how you go about this. First, Grab a pad of paper and write above the margin "Things my SVs will get into". Please note that I didn't say "might" but rather "will". Make an inventory of everything in your home and place a small checkbox next to each. Make sure to look in drawers, cabinets, closets and whatever other type of storage you have. Also note attached fixtures to the walls and ceilings as it's extremely important to be thorough.

When you are all done and are sure you have everything inventoried, you will need to add one additional line item and checkbox. Place a check in the checkbox and then write "ALL OF THE ABOVE".

John, you are undoubtedly right, but you can't fault me for optimism.

I view this as a fun challenge and if anything I will get more done around the house than usual.

I title this one Food Fight! It looks as if the two of them have gotten into the habit of flinging bits of dry and wet food around while eating. I'm constantly having to clean up after them.

I was chipping off flecks of rat flesh and blood splatters adhering to the side of my clothes dryer this morning because Juba decided to have fun with his breakfast. It looked like a crime scene. There are a few drawbacks to feeding a whole prey diet. I've learned not to look up at our ceiling. If I don't look, nothing is there.

Have you considered putting down a large plastic trash bag or sheet of plastic under their food area to save the hassle of cleaning the carpet? Even a towel would be easier to clean than the carpet. I used plastic when Juba (the rat flinger) was a baby.

It has ocurred that a large cardboard box cut down to where it has a low rim might be a good option. I happen to have one I can use.

Juba has the excuse of being cute and no jury of peers would convict the rat flinger.

Forgot to tell you that I loved the bag pictures. They're a big hit around here too. In addition playing in the bag, all 3 of mine like to body surf with them. They flatten the bag and take a running leap onto it causing the bag to slide for a considerable distance. I had all the carpet removed from the house before I got my first SV and pergo floors are the cats' meow.

They have managed to flatten the bag. The sliding will have to wait until they have gotten downstairs to the living room, dining room, kitchen area.

Here are a few more pictures. One shows Yuki pinning Yeti down for some grooming. The others are just Yeti, on the bag and on top of the box I converted into a kitty fort.

By the way, I hope nobody minds me treating this thread in a blog like fashion. If anyone finds it too much of a self centered indulgence please let me know. I'm having quite a bit of fun, but want to make sure we're all having fun instead of it being 'The Tort518 Show'.

Hey we all have been there and rejoice in the feeling surrounding having a new kitten(s). It'll be my turn in a few weeks to gush over our new kitten. I've heard so many great stories on when the little ones come home that there are quite a few kittens I feel I know. From their idiosyncrasies, to how much they dig in a litter box. Additionally there are so many different responses out of the gate that hearing the tales helps out those that are waiting for their little ones to arrive.

So carry on Hombres!
