Tea tree oil is poisonous for cats. Fyi. I'm sure you're fine, but throwing it out there.

Quite right. That's why I rinse off very well to the point that I cannot smell it though the cats probably still can. Good that you brought it up in case anyone unfamiliar wants to benefit from the anti-fungal feature without harming their furry friends.

When I was breeding egg laying tropical fish I used tea tree oil in the water to protect the eggs from fungus. Paz is known to like drinking from the fish tanks if he can get access so I had to watch closely. It also has anti-bacterial benefits which is handy if the fish have open wounds (like when your aggressive female betta manages to escape her side of the breeding tank and beat the tar out of the very passive male betta).

Getting back to the kitties, it is dinner time and the SVs are chowing down on the raw food. Paz is clueless so he is getting more time to decide if he wants to try it before it gets taken away. Once they all begin eating together I am certain he'll eat it too since he has to eat whatever he sees another cat eat.

Paige,
That's actually good to know, but I was informed of it via another member of the tropical fish club I was part of who claimed his cat got hold of the bottle and died. Of course he could have been BSing.

I have an update on the raw chicken: SVs 3oz, Paz 0oz.

Yuki and Yeti loved it and cleaned the dish which they almost never do with canned or kibble. They're in a very celebratory mood after that meal. They are hanging out with me and behaving. :big grin:

Mickey,Jarvis and D (all fromA1) love raw chicken.
They do equally well with boiled chicken, and are equally affectionate.
They also LOVE turkey and cooked pork.
The three boys eat a 5.5 oz can of wet anda bowl which holds 12 oz of dry in 24 hours (augmented by our dinner left overs of course).

Tort....thank you thank you thank you for the Yeti pics. He is soooooo damn cute. I could kiss all the fur off his face given half the chance.

As to the garbage. When I attempt to take out a bag, there is usually a SV hanging off the bottom of it slowly twirling in a circle, teeth firmly affixed to the bag. They smell the remnants of their meals and seem to prefer smelly rotten meat over the fresh stuff. Maybe they're vultures in disguise.

They're certainly SOMETHING in disguise, but what?

Deb, Yeti is really shaping up to be a very pretty boy. He says thanks for the compliments, or he would if he understood. ;)

And I have been doing more reading on tea tree oil. It can be toxic. Apparently the amount and frequency is important for toxicity. Liver development is a key factor which is why kittens are more at risk than adult cats. Since I'm using it on myself and not them, and being careful, I think things will be fine.

I learn something new thanks to these two every day. :)

Everything I have researched when looking into RW with cats said it is poisonous. It is not a risk I would take just for its antifungal capabilities. Looks like this is the best site to use as a reference since they don't say yay or nay, but leave it up to the owner...

Sorry, Tort- not trying to steal your thread on the amazing twosome! I've heard amazing things about TTO, but I am a bit leery on its usage.

Thanks Trish, that is one of the sites I read when looking things up.

And speakng of the amazing twosome, they got canned food for breakfast because I need to finish thawing out the raw.

Also, Yeti is either clueless or fearless. He jumped into a chair Paz was in and didn't budge when Paz hissed at him. It was as if he has no sense of the meaning being conveyed. He looked at Paz and turned his attention back to what drew his attention to begin with.

The funnier part is that Paz did not react badly right away. It was only after sniffing Yeti and seeing the boy's intact precious gems that the hissing started. Must be upset that his were stolen when he was a kitten and is jealous.

Funnier still, Paz had given Yeti a headbutt a few minutes before getting into the chair. Talk about mood swings. :)

Yes, I agree, I would be careful...but, I know several very experienced breeders who use it. I would go more with something like Tinactin if it were me...
