Pancreatitis noticed from a full blood panel

Well, one way or another, getting shots of B12 won't hurt. It is water soluble so any excess is pee'd out and it generally makes the cat feel better and more lively.

I don't think that her lack of experience with savannah cats is the issue. It appears that she jumps to conclusions (and medications and a long line of treatments) based on very limited evidence.

I still don't think she would be a good vet for me or anyone elses pet, if she jumps to conclusions based on very limited evidence, especially if it was something alot serious.

The pancreas creates intrinsic factor, an enzyme needed to absorb B12. Low b12 is confirmed thru blood test. Symptoms are vomiting, decreased appetite and lethargy. Did they specifically test for B12? If I remember correctly, the cat has to fast for the test.
Hi Rafiki, I just called the new vet hospital this morning to ask them if Newton had to fast for the Vit B12 test blood work and they said he didn't have to......Maybe I should fast him anyway, I guess...

I could be wrong....poor Rafiki was at the vet's every other week for 6 months last year so I could be mistaken on that one!

I wouldn't fast him before the vet visit, that could skew other values. Best to only fast when it is specifically required for a certain test.

Agree with Brigitte - there is certainly no reason you would have to fast for a Vitamin B12 level, nor most other blood tests.

I've never had my cats fast for a full blood panel anyway...but I was wondering, because this is the first time anything negative showed up on Newton and that he had to have meds.

Well, i just received a call from the new pet hosp called Mostly Cats, and they said Newton DOES have to fast the night before starting at 8:00pm......I'm going to call them back and let them know I don't get home until 11:30pm.
