Unfortunately, FIP is a disease that it is pretty safe to say ALL catteries will see if they remain open long enough... FIP is not a disease in and of itself- it is a horrible mutation of the corona virus, which is the common kitty cold.

My heart aches for you, AprilAnn, and your beautiful baby...

No, Mr. Twister- FIP is NOT manageable. There are new protocols, but from what I understand- they are very expensive and just prolong life, but not really prolonging quality of life. I'm sure Brigitte might pop on here with more info- she's very knowledgeable about FIP. My one experience so far was a rescue Selkirk that developed it within a week of coming home- still in quarantine, still broke my heart...

AprilAnn, I just read this after posting on your other thread. How did your vet diagnosed FIP? I ask because many times vets will presume FIP without confirming the diagnosis. There was just an article published last week discrediting the albumin-globulin ratio as being diagnostic - many a cat have been put down based on this test and now we know that it really isn't reliable in diagnosing FIP.

They have drained some of the liquid from his abdomen and done X-rays and numerous other urine and blood work and everything checked out fairly healthy. No foreign objects causing the bloating in his belly. The liquid that was extracted is like that of a serum and is straw colored... In FIP I have been told that is the description of the fluid. The fluid was also tested for bacteria and there was none to be found. They gave me small dose of steroids to give him but he is not eating much. Won't even eat his favorite treats. He is also very lethargic and weak which are symptoms of FIP.

I just can't stand to see him like this. Not jumping as high and when we gets up high he can barely embrace himself when he jumps down. Very weak and wobbly. I just wanted to hold him and comfort him these last days until I go to the vet for a 3rd and final prognosis, then I will be making my decision there.

First, I am so sorry to hear about this. Our previous cat Sophie passed on with brain tumor and had given up eating the healthy stuff but we gave her oral steroids everyday and she ate fancy feast non stop for a few months. I understand what your going through and my heart and soul is with you and your baby. I lost my dog after 17 years 3 years ago, do everything as you feel in your heart as needed and make sure your baby is not suffering after all said and done. We all are hear for you, most of us have been where you are regardless of the symptoms.
