I just found this thread and it is very informational and enlightening! I too agree with Cary about a lot of buyers not understanding what all a breeder goes through. Just from the short time Shane and I spent with Christina at Lequoia we got to see a snippet of the life of a breeder. Let me just tell you Christina is a saint! She had always responded to my emails or FB messages VERY quickly and now I know why! She just goes and goes! Taking care of kitties and responding to peoples messages and then back to kitties!
As far as pricing goes, as a buyer I knew price was (unfortunately) going to be a determining factor for me. I'm not quite sure how old Fitz was when I first contacted Christina but I told her then that I wasn't able to get a SV yet due to the house rebuild. Instead of just saying "Ok thanks." or something simple and dismissing me she IMMEDIATELY offered to keep him until we were ready. We emailed back a forth a handful of times over about 4 months. I felt so bad because I kept commenting on pics and saying "I waaaaaant!!" knowing good and well he was going to get purchased before Shane and I were ready. Luckily he did not and Christina worked with us every single step of the way. She even let us stay the night at her home to help us save on a hotel and she woke up at 2AM because that is when we wanted to head out!! (I told ya she's a saint

All that being said, I think breeders (good ones) are amazing, dedicated, HUGE hearted people that just want the best for their kitties. It was fate for us to get Fitz and Christina made that even easier. Posting your prices or not the breeders on here have beautiful kitties and beautiful hearts. I consider myself blessed to get to be a fly on the wall to so many kitties lives!!

Mantha, I agree with... I too set a Budget... And then I found Elsa that I fell in love with at first site and was right at Budget... The rest is history.
Depends on the breeder...
I think that is the high end of the pet price range. I think you might be able to find one for less if you shop around, and are willing to wait, but even a nonstandard will like be over $6K

I feel the same way about my breeder. She assured me that she was available "after the purchase" of my precious F6 female. I have actually contacted her twice with questions since I purchased my kitten and she was very helpful. I love the fact that she is so passionate about breeding the Savannahs and she genuinely cares about them after they leave the cattery and she wants the cats to thrive in their new environment.
My kitten is almost five months old and is being spayed this morning. I have already told my vet that Ketamine should not be used on Savannahs because it can be lethal to them. I'm going to be on pins and needles until I have her back home with me. I was able to take off from work on Monday so I can spend the first 24 hours with her.
I had to have my 20 year old cat euthanized in January and it almost killed me. I swore I would never own another cat but I became extremely lonely and I decided that I could open my home and my heart to another furbaby !
I am so sorry that this happened to your 20 year old cat... I lost my cat to kidney disease and he was 15 years old... One of the best cats I have ever owned (not Savannah), note my Avatar. I cannot euthanize one of my pets as they are a member of my family.... To me that is like having a parent or grand parent euthanized. I know there are a lot of people who will argue this with me... I was so glad when I got Elsa and she is rewarding every day...... LOL, Right now she is helping me drink my cup of tea.
They are always so helpful and rewarding.... How can anyone live without them...
