I feel the same way about my breeder. She assured me that she was available "after the purchase" of my precious F6 female. I have actually contacted her twice with questions since I purchased my kitten and she was very helpful. I love the fact that she is so passionate about breeding the Savannahs and she genuinely cares about them after they leave the cattery and she wants the cats to thrive in their new environment.

My kitten is almost five months old and is being spayed this morning. I have already told my vet that Ketamine should not be used on Savannahs because it can be lethal to them. I'm going to be on pins and needles until I have her back home with me. I was able to take off from work on Monday so I can spend the first 24 hours with her.

I had to have my 20 year old cat euthanized in January and it almost killed me. I swore I would never own another cat but I became extremely lonely and I decided that I could open my home and my heart to another furbaby !

I am very sorry for you loss.
I am glad you have brought a new baby home, and I am sure all will go well today with her spay. All three of my boys did very well with their neuters, and our foster DSH did very well with her spay.

I'm really sorry for your loss...I remember that feeling of despair so well...having to pts my best friend of 15 years, Rocky, was devastating...but it led to my first Savannah, Taj...and then all the others :)

Your girl will be ok...please let us know how it goes.

I agree with the"helping." Nala loves to help me do everything! It takes me twice as long performing a task because she's running away with what I need, trying to take it away from me or plops down in the middle of what I'm doing (especially laundry).

As far as having my precious Misty euthanized; it was probably the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. She was septic, had renal failure, arthritis, and her kidneys were shutting down. I think she had a stroke because she couldn't walk and she became incontinent. I had to feed her and give her water. I refused to let her suffer. My vet told me that Misty could suffer anywhere from a week to ten days. During that time, as her organs were shutting down, she would be vomiting and gagging. Again, I couldn't let her suffer. I held her in my arms until she peacefully passed away. I had her cremated because I couldn't stand the thought of her being buried. I have a beautiful urn which sits on my fireplace mantle with her ashes in it. I also wear a cremation locket, which contains some of her ashes and a few hairs I was able to get from her brush. When I wear this beautiful locket, Misty is near my heart. I feel that I did the most selfless and final act of love when I had Misty euthanized.

I am a Registered Nurse and see patients struggling to survive every day. Believe me, there are a lot of worse things other than death.

My sweet Nala is a life saver to me. She is great company and I love her more every day. After I had Misty euthanized, I swore that I would never own another cat. When I felt that I could share my love with another cat, that's when I researched the Savannahs and knew right away that I had to have one. I've never regretted that decision one little bit. I didn't get her to replace Misty; that would be unfair to both Nala and Misty. And besides, there could never be a cat that could replace her! I love Nala just as much as I loved Misty.

Your 2 messages really struck me... I remember when Elsa had her problems (she was very young, 3 months old) and the vet recommended putting her down... I cannot stand the word "euthanize" as it makes it sound so sterile. The vet told me with Authority that she would not make it through the night.... I could not give in, and elected not to do it... She spent the night at the emergency vet... All of my Friends Prayed for her and the next morning the Vet not expecting to see her back said she did not look like the same cat.

I cannot imagine life without my Fur Kids... They treat me better than most humans, and I certainly have more respect for them.

My Savannah Kilifi came in after I lost my 17 yr companion Arthur. Same reason as you, I read up on Savannahs and wanted one. So did my remaining DSH Merlin. He had Kilifi for about a month, and then had heart failure. Then I got Azidi for Kilifi. And then Regie came in to balance all the female energy. LOL

Eddies

Eddies a ham!
I think we drove Kelly crazy BEFORE we actually had Eddie home, he was insured before getting on the plane to come home, his vet was already in contact with other vets more experienced with Savannahs, everything was set up & waiting for Eddie including a playmate Tigger the rescued Bengal....then I saw Mojo & Trish & Bronwyn allowed that we could be a 2 Savannah family... 3 decisions I am Thankful for even when it sounds like a herd of elephants running through the house at 4am= Eddie, Mojo, & Tigger.

From a committed Savannah's Caretakers view point, Once we buyers, future caretakers, companions, have connected with the boy/girl of our dreams, price becomes secondary, and you all basically have us by the short hairs, once commitment has been rendered.

Negotiation becomes futile, and a wasted move, you know we will find a way to secure the new family member. I hate asking for prices, but, frak, some of us don't have a money tree out in the back yard to go to. And usually get the "our fx kittens usually go for xyz-r2d2, price range, with $xxx.yz air fare...." and my response is, "that is real close to my maximum investment range for the new family member. Once assessed, am sure we will come to an mutual agreement.

At that point, as a purrspective new care taker, feel both buyer & breeder have come to a commitment of some understanding, and the deal is done unless something unthinkable happens.

Thing is with us true Savannah companions, once we find our destined child. there is nothing we won't do to ensure a legal binding contract that Rufio is mine.

It gives me added comfort that there are breeders out there that are as committed to their offspring as the true Savannah Companions are... Nothing burns my whiskers more than got plastic, got cat, kind of philosophy of some of the larger breeders do demonstrate. Simply heartheartheart the dedication of the members from this site that have been in contact with. You all have my Purrrsonal appurrreciation, for helping me find my baby boy Rufio F2.
