I agree, Joe - I don't think Probiotics will make any difference, but I guess they can't hurt...I think you will find that some of us use different probiotics, so I'm not sure there will be a consensus...

Probios has a gel form which all my savannahs LOVE!!! You may want to try it...

Paige,

The Probios gel seems easier to administer since I feed kibble. I figure I can just wipe it on his gums 1x/day. Is this what you do?

In any event, the gel is NA around here........only powder and caps. I'll have to get it from Amazon.

A kitten has a very short intestine, so he may not manage to process everything before he has to defecate. Is the problem (if it is one) there when you feed with "proper" (ie not kibble) food?
He´s growing well, so I wouldn´t worry too much.
As for probiotics, we use the simplest there is: youghurt or what´s called "kefir" (soured milk, lots of lactobacillus, no lactose left). Put on saucer, cat eat.
Cheers

Joe, I bought it directly from probios and believe it or not, once they got a taste of it, they came after me for more ;)

I ordered it today from ProbioticSmart, a recommended distributor of Probios, and listed in Amazon. A Probios Equine One Gel 30 gm syringe for $5.85 plus 3.35 S & H. Before ordering, I called Probios' help line and they confirmed that the equine formula is exactly the same as canine/feline formula, including flavor. The only diff is color and dispenser size. Equine is less than 1/2 the price of canine/feline variety.

hahaha...you were smarter than I was...I bought the smaller syringes, but then I give it to baby kittens, so that is probably best...however, I will now look at the 30gm syringe for the cats...thanks for sharing that ;)

Now here's a thread I can get into.

I found that backing off a wee bit on the protein content of kibble firmed up the stools on my two mixed Mau kittens and as grown adults. Out of these four varieties, Royal Canin, Wellness, Orijen and PureVita, the last two were the most successful but each cat is different. I used to provide kibble as a snack only to an otherwise wet food diet and have gone fully wet since bringing Isis home.

I agree with your sentiment that backing off on protein content, for example in 5% increments of the protein to fat ratio by dropping 5% protein for 5% more fat content and see how that goes is a worth a try. If you look at the ingredients of Adult vs Kitten formula, you'll find the kitten variety is slightly higher in fat to aid in digestion and build up those energy stores. The number one issue with kibble is moisture followed by being a processed food.

I've started an experiment with soft boiled eggs yesterday. Coincidentally, today was the first ever food rejection from Ra which was half a soft boiled egg with yolk and white crumbled with wet food. The yolk by itself last night was not an issue, but mixed with white was too much for him to be appetizing. The other two readily devoured it with the rest of the food. In fact, Isis knew the smell of eggs as part of her breakfast when she was with momma before I brought her home. :) She attacked a small piece of shell that hit the floor and crunched it down begging instantly for more.

I also have the same, oh you're going, I'll go with you in the master bath. I think it's funny, adorable, and silly all at once. I would not be concerned there.

Where did you get the measurements and what's the technique for this? Getting total length is relatively easy by having them stretch out to their full capacity but the length (head included or not, from base of neck or shoulders?) and height (from shoulders and standing on all four or sitting) is supposed to be done how exactly?

John and I have talked about cars too. I'm a Jaguar XJR and Toyota Supra Turbo household, looking to add a Jaguar Series 1 XJ6 or XJ12 to the garage in the coming months as a luxurious, understated cruiser. Another Jag is more readily accepted by family and friends than a 4th cat (another SV) I'll tell you that much!

What do you consider "proper" food, and is a high percentage serval F1 Savannah's required diet any different from that of any other domestic cat?

The probiotics in Probios are almost all "lactobacillus" variants. All derived from milk products:

Lactic Acid Bacteria - not less than 10 MillionCFU/g

INGREDIENTS: Dried Enterococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, and Dried Lactobacillus plantarum Fermentation Product.

My cat will lap up the whole tub of butter, if I let him. He loves milk and ice cream as well. Although I never indulge him with any dairy, I expect that he will love the Probios gel as well, since it has a dairy base.

Louie's Dad .... In Per's statement above, he says he does not consider kibble proper food.

I must say that this thread is the most unique combo of subjects we've had to date -- poop & cars. So can we say that car aficionados are also poopheads:poop::roflmao:?
