Yeah, IDK why...I have always been told 2 weeks for anything like that when they have been on meds, such as Flagyl or Prednisone. Janet is pretty much an expert on this stuff...she has been working on this for years...but...maybe 7 days will be enough...I hope so.

One question for any of the breeders on here, or owners opinions.. Should I bother my breeder about anything with my 1 year health guarantee? I don't know if I should be due any refund.. I bought Keljin for only $500, but I feel like I have spent easily another 500-1000 on his vet bills alone in four months.. I feel like I was sold an unhealthy kitten. I am not blaming the breeders for not knowing about it, but I am definitely voicing out to them to look into treating their cats and educating themselves on tritrich as well. Thoughts?[/quote]
If the kitten came to you sick then you should have told your breeder about it long before four months had passed. He/she could have some insight into the problem that might have saved you multiple vet visits and expenses. A one year health guarantee is a bit unusual except to cover genetic conditions since a kitten/cat can come down with all sorts of problems that have nothing to do with the original breeder, but if that is what your contract says then it sounds like you are due some sort of compensation. But even if not, your breeder needs to know about the issue so that he/she can test and treat her other cats if needed. Who knows how many other kittens may have been sent out in the past four months with this problem because the breeder wasn't aware of it?

My vet also told me results could be in as soon as this Saturday or as late as Tuesday.. I thought the test results took longer than that. *shrugs* - my vet has been getting careful directions and instructions from the lab they work with so I have been trusting everything she says.
Ugh, I hate waiting, I am usually able to get PCR results back in 24-48hrs.

All you can do about the breeder is explain to her what's going on and see how it goes... I personally would not even mention the health guarantee- if it's a typical one, it covers immediate issues within 72 hours to maybe a week at the most and then congenital defects up to a year. Just let her know and see what she says Maybe she'll offer you something- which would be kind of her- or maybe you'll just ensure she checks into this issue with future kittens. Either way, you've done a good thing by telling her.

I did let the breeder know immediately 2 days after bringing him home that he had severe diarrhea. He consoled me and told me it was due to stress and environment change, give it a week and perhaps a diet change. I began giving him pumpkin on the side and that helped, I also got him dewormed. I have stayed in contact with the breeder after every vet visit to explain what we are trying next and what the vet says, and he has only recommended food changes, then taking him back to the vet when the issue became so ongoing.. really that advice was no help at all. I let him know 2-3 weeks ago once I began to suspect the tritrich, and now even further we have confirmed a third littermate with the same issues. Her poor kitten would cry in pain whenever it would go potty... I would think once I told him about that confirmed diagnosis he would do something, but he is refusing to test his cattery because "he takes all of his cats to the vet often enough for checkups and they are fine" .... really? I even explained to him that the adult cats may show no symptoms but still be carriers.

It upsets me too because Keljin was ridden with so many other issues with tapeworms and roundworms, and now the tritrich, the breeder doesn't seem to understand he should get them checked out. Especially when these issues are consistent with 3 of 5 out of the litter that I have tracked down so far.

I really hope so. I will email again and try re explaining my concern on having his cattery tested and checked out for these issues. So far it feels like he is not willing to budge or try to understand. We go to the same vet, so I am thinking of leaving some information or asking the vet to please educate him since he won't believe me..

I would also make sure to tell the breeder that many cats with this condition are otherwise healthy (good weight and healthy shiny coats) other than the diarrhea, and not even all cats actually have diarrhea.

Okay, after reading this and mind you I don't know who your breeder is... I would say he simply doesn't care about the tritrich and I doubt you will get anything from him at all. I understand his initial belief that there was no problem, but if multiple siblings have tested positive for tritrich... Here's your sign, dude! Grumble, grumble...

Oh well this is a completely different picture. If he is doing nothing for the confirmed case of tritrich then it is unlikely that he will be helpful to your situation. I do agree that stress can cause GI upset and diarrhea, as well as a change in diet. Also, I would want to see the test results on the kittens that have been tested before subjecting my entire cattery to antibiotics, but it sounds like he has not even requested the medical records? Frustrating situation
