vomiting after dry food but not wet?

Cyro's going to be spending the day at the vets under observation (and they may run a few tests later in the day once they're less busy). I warned them to be careful with what they put in his cage, because he's been chewing on (and trying to eat) everything in sight because he's so hungry. They weighed him, and he's also lost weight just in the few days between now and his last visit. Poor guy!

Poor guy for sure. I hope Cyro gets better soon.

If possible, can you give us a time line on when you first started feeling bad, when he was away from home, his vet visits, the adventures with duck feet and when he first started having an issue holding down his food. Certainly not a replacement for a vet visit, just trying to piece things together to have a better picture on the chain of events.

The holidays always bring lots of sparkling stuff and plenty of packaging for cats and kittens to get into, as well as being away from home as I believe you mentioned.

Anyway, wishing Cyro a speedy recovery!

Alex, I will be keeping Cyro in the forefront of my thoughts today. Sending the energy needed to find the cause of his tummy's discontent. And a big hug to you 'cause I know your worried. :)

Awww. Thanks Carydk7kau! I am really worried about him. He's starving, but doesn't keep anything down.

John, I went to go visit my out of state family for Christmas week, and he was doing fine and eating normally then ... after that we went to another relative's house for 4 days, and one of the nights he woke me up playing with some styrofoam he found (maybe that's what's stuck?) ... I took that away ... he was also getting into trash cans there ... though I think we caught him most of the time. He had his first duck foot during the 4 day stay at the relative's house (he ate the entire webbed part off, and loved it!) ... he started throwing up after eating dry food on day 3 & 4 at the relative's house ...

We drove home New Year's Eve Day, and I took him into the vet for his first set of xrays on Friday (he was still working on that duck foot, so there were a few bone pieces in his stomach). On Monday he started having a hard time keeping the wet food down, so I fed him yogurt and chicken broth. On Tuesday I tried the boneless chicken thigh (the thigh didn't stay down), and at another point a little canned tuna, in case it was a food allergy. That didn't stay down either. The vet was closed yesterday (Tuesday), but this morning I took him in for a visit (he's still there right now).

On his first vet visit they gave him Famotidine (finished last night), Cisapride (finished last night), Maropitant citrate (cerenia)(finished last night), Amoxicillin (still on), & Laxatone (still on).

Prior to feeling sick he was being free fed Royal Canin dry kitten food, then 1-2x per day he was getting about 1/4 c of wet Evo turkey/chicken food for cats & kittens.

I have heard that Styrofoam can be a real problem. Tell the vet if you have not already. Another thing is those little dessicant packs that come out of various packages.

"Most of the time..." It only takes once...

Keeping all my digits crossed that the vet finds out what is ailing your poor baby and fix it quick. Hugs to you too. We all know how hard it is to watch someone you love suffer.

Exactly ... that's what I'm worried about. The vet did say his symptoms aren't like what a cat with a typical intestinal blockage would have, which is complicating the process of discovering what the problem is a little more ... as she put it, he's very unique.

Thanks Alex! That paints a pretty good picture. Lots going on over the last few weeks for Cyro.

Hope they get him back on the road to good health soon.

Glad you took him in, Alex and hoping they get to the bottom of this sooner than later... Fingers and paws crossed here for Cyro!

Good luck- hopefully it is something relatively small and easy to fix, but I'm glad your baby is at the vet and they'll figure this out!
