When I got the kitten he was 14 weeks old. He died approximately 6 months later. At the time F1hybrids was in Kentucky & we drove from Mississippi to pick him up. Michelle was no help at all & said it was my savannahs that got him sick. Luckily, we quarantined him & keep him completely away from the others. As soon as he got home with us his stool was runny and never cleared up. Was a big mess & we did everything we could with the vets to save him. We were devastated loosing him. My kids took it really hard. I have no doubt that Michelle knew. At the time I had asked about having him shipped to me & said that she wouldn't. Make sense because he wouldn't have passed the health certificate to fly.

I am so sorry you had to go through that, it really is heartbreaking. I had a very similar thing happen to me last year, different breeder though. I got my kitten (Kai, my avatar pic) at about 10 weeks old and only had him about 3 months before he passed away from the wet form of FIP. Luckily the breeder was good to work with and when I was ready about 6 months later, I picked a replacement kitten. My new kitten, Shango is now almost 6 months old and has been doing great and no health problems.

Getting a kitten from a more reputable breeder doesn't guarantee they won't get FIP. I do think how the breeder handles the situation is what sets them apart from the bad breeders. If I ever do get a 2nd Savannah, I would do things differently and instead of going with a big cattery that almost always has kittens available, I would wait and get one from one of the breeders on this forum or one they recommend. They truly care about their kittens and are there to offer support even after the sale, which is not always the case with the bigger catteries.

Completely agreed, almost every breeder will experience FIP at some stage, but it is how they deal with it that makes the difference.

Very well said and so true! I'm so sorry you went through that as well. Its very tough doing your all emotionally, financially and vet wise and still go through a loss and I hope I don't ever have to experience that again. Its even more difficult when a breeder doesn't step up and stand by there kittens in that situation. Your very blessed you had a good breeder to work with.

I told PayPal that & they didn't seem to care. They put the responsibility on me.

paypal does not care because you broke their TOS. the business could get in trouble.

people send me unsolicited "gift " payments to purchase goods from my business and paypal has removed that option. i can no longer get gift payments. i specifically tell people NOT to use gift. it is bad for both buyers and sellers.

i NEVER send gift payments through paypal. i just pay the additional 3% and get the paypal coverage.

just tell your CC company that you wnat to dispute it. you will win. they protect the buyers

I spoke to my credit card company and they told me to speak with breeder first and if breeder want agree then they would dispute it with PayPal and breeder but of course they said no guarantees. What's sad is all I want is a healthy and fun purchasing experience. There's a beautiful f2 male that I want so bad that someone from this site recommended the breeder and I'm sure I will miss out because I will need my money back from deposit to make it work. He looks so much like my previous f2 boy.

Don't despair... Talk to them and see how it goes. Let us know... Which kitten are you looking at?

Thanks, it was definitely a very emotional time. I did have insurance on my kitten so that helped a lot with the vet bills. Something to look into. Insurance doesn't cover everything, but when it comes to emergencies well worth the monthly cost and it personally gives me a little piece of mind. There are several different companies that offer different plans. IMO it's better to sign up early because they don't cover pre-existing conditions and the prices also increase with the pets age.

Bandit is adorable, best of luck getting Taran to refund your $ so you can get him.

Thank you so much! I just called with no answer. I'm fixing to write a letter requesting refund if she's not able to provide a health agreement and a few other things since I'm truly scared of the purchase at this point with all the negative stuff seen on this forum and on another internet site. I so hope she just refunds me and Ill get Bandit. I will keep things posted here on whether or not she does the right thing. She truly seemed to be a Christian lady and talked about prayer in a few conversations. If she does the right thing I will sure post to that effect or vice versa.
