You mean with or without the chiller? I started with the basic and have two of them. I will order the chilled version eventually.

I was trying to decide if I should spring for a chiller or just start with basic. If its worth it, I would rather get the chiller rather then buying the basic and deciding to buy a chiller anyway. Does refrigerating water bottles with the basic fountain help enough?

It does...I don't have any issues with the basic, but since I don't have the chilled, I can't compare

I may go with the basic then, unless someone wants to make a compelling case for the chiller. I live in Cincinnati, which is not particularly hot.

Planning on buying one of these shortly. Is the perfect pet fountain worth the extra expense, or should I just start with the basic? For those of you with fountains, what extras are recommended?

I have two of the perfect fountain. The cold water really does make a difference my cats' drinking habits which is better for their health. Short term, expensive, long term, worth every penny.

Also of note: call and talk to Barry when you are ordering. He's nice and each time he has done nice things for me. First time he refunded $45 of shipping charges and threw in some extras on top of the additional things I ordered. Second time he tossed in an extra feeding dish. He also liked that I plan to buy one of these for a friend's cats as a christmas gift.

You'll still have to order online, but this will help you do that better. His site is not as intuitive as it could be. You'll want to look under "Parts" for much of the things to order. He can help tell you the numbers of the items and guide you through all of the steps.
