Malibu, Kali & Odrick

Savannah Super Cat
Lmao!! I love seeing Kali lick his brother's ear. It is the same as Loki. That is what he does to Dante. He acts sweet then becomes a tryrant!

So cute, but I feel bad for my older kitty. He sleeps with us at night, but the crazy is ready for play in the AM. Lots of fetch has helped and chase. We now have a new game were we chase each other and when he chases me back he pounces on me. I'm 5'8" and this bugger flies and smacks me in the shoulders (softly and no claws, he's a sweetie).

Just keep deflecting any attacks away from the other cat to you and use what you can so he knows it is serious. We spray Loki with a bottle when he is being mean to Dante, buy honestly it has been good as long as he is exercised.

PS, more pics!!! They are so adorable!!

You're going to need another Savannah to wear him out, lol.

Absolutely not  My heart & my 700 sq ft home are quite full.

I do feel a little bit bad for Kali because she's not able to be near me as much. Any time she tries to come for pets or attention, Odrick thinks it's a party and gallops over. I do miss having Kali sleep with me, though. Odge does not sleep in the bed and for some reason, he wants to be wherever Kali is LOL whether she likes it or not! She won't sleep in the bed with me because Odrick tries to play and runs her off so she sleeps in the living room & Odge is always about 2 feet away. So I'm sleeping all alone *sigh*

I do think that in time, Kali will be more comfortable & confident. I do have Feliway diffusers plugged in every room. I also spray a mist of Jackson Galaxy's "Safe Space for Cats" in her favorite napping spot every day. I know he's not a favorite around here but I wanted to try everything I could to keep Kali & Odrick comfortable during their introductions. I've been using the Feliway & the JG mist since before Odge came home. I don't know if it actually works or if all of that is just hokey pokey but I'm going to continue until we're all in a better place. Don't get me wrong...we're certainly not in a BAD place but Kali is not her usual, loving self quite yet. It's only been 3 weeks since they've been interacting face-to-face and I know that it can take much more time than that for cats.

Odrick completely knocked out his left, upper canine tooth a few nights ago which warranted a vet visit. I was pretty freaked out. It was late at night and I saw him shaking his head and licking his lips. And continuously shaking his head & licking his lips. I knew he either had something stuck in his mouth or broke a tooth. It took me a good while to actually see what happened because he wouldn't sit still to let me get a good look. Finally I did and I saw his fang tooth was completely out. I'll show you a picture. The vet told me that it's nothing to worry about. She said his adult fang will push any leftover root if there is any and I should not be concerned about infection.

Here's a cute video of Odge being Odge:

And if anyone isn't on FB, I posted this video of him when he jumped in the bathtub with me a few days ago. I've created a monster by letting him do that because he was trying to jump in the bath again with me last night but I wouldn't let him LOL He was trying sooo hard to jump in and I was cracking up laughing trying to keep him out. He looked so betrayed! We were splashing water everywhere and I just had to get out. I will have to start locking him out of the bathroom when I want to relax from now on.

Lol, Ninja steals our shirts all the time. Always after we've worn them. Pulls them out of the hamper so he can get that stinky roll and rub action. Weirdo.

@Patti He does love the water. I really should stop being selfish & run him his own bath with some toys so he can really play but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I'm just afraid he's going to want to hop in & hop out....and hop in & hop out and get water everywhere :big grin: One day, I'll get him a kitty pool outside but he still doesn't love the outdoors yet.

I brought the little man home 6 weeks ago today! I feel like every day that passes, he has more energy. My little sister (18yo) has been coming by to visit because her & Odge adore each other. She slept over at my house over the weekend and he loved having a new buddy to play with. Like a typical teenager, she was on her phone, checking her social media when we laid down in bed. I learned from the first night that I brought Odrick home that he does not accept phones at bedtime. He kept pouncing on her phone (and inadvertently, her face/head) until she finally listened to me and put it away. He's such a funny character!

He's also really starting to get on Kali's nerves. I don't know why he wants to be around her all the time since she doesn't even like him! But wherever Kali goes, Odrick is following. She's fine with him for the most part but sometimes he does get too rough with her and I have to pull out the "Emergency Save Kali" toys to wear him out. This is one of them that he loves and will wear himself out with:

He loves Kali because she is a cat, and she is a female (mommy substitute) and he probably thinks her reaction to his rough housing is just an invitation for him to play harder! Sometimes it's tough for kitties to learn how to behave, but they usually get it after awhile with love and guidance from us humans (and sometime by getting scolded from other cats...)

When will my kitten be less clumsy?

I have a wall climber, basically a few climbing shelves with two lounging shelves about 7ft high above my doorframe. Odrick has fallen right off the climbing shelves a few times. He hasn't hurt himself but I've blocked off the bottom shelves so he can't climb up it at all until he has more...grace?...of an adult cat.

When can I trust him with the wall climber without worrying about him falling?

Cute pics & video, unrelated:

I have a 9 yr old F2 who still falls off stuff. My guess is that Odrick will probably stay a tad clumsy until he's about a year old. Part of the clumsiness is due to a kitten's lack of regard for its mortality and the other part is due to learning how to live with a body that is in constant growth. By end of year 1, he'll have most of his height and length but he still may not have much regard for his mortality. If you limit his ability to develop coordination by over-limiting his climbing and jumping, it may take longer for him. It's a fine line between wanting to keep him safe and ensuring those muscles and coordination develop.

I think the shelves are very slippery so he just slides right off of them. (They are only iKea shelves that I used as a cat climber.) And when he tries to catch himself, his nails have nothing to grab on to. I just ordered a couple of these scratch pad inserts to stick on the shelves. I think these will work great so when they come in, I'll put them on & see if he's better with it. The inserts were 20% off right now so that's pretty cool

Good idea. When my friend built the shelves and walkways in the cats' playroom, I bought dirt cheap indoor/outdoor carpeting at Home Depot and some super duper strong velcro and stuck it on everything. The carpeting is so cheap that I don't bother to clean it if someone barfs, I just throw it away. Keep a roll out in the garage to replace as needed.
